OUR CURRICULUM AT A GLANCE

NJ CURRICULUM STANDARDS
The Ridgefield Park Cooperative school creates its curriculum around the New Jersey Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards. Assessments are given in January and May for progress.
LITERACY RICH ENVIRONMENT
Our classroom is literacy rich. Our curriculum emphasizes the importance of speaking, reading and writing in the learning of all students. The teacher carefully includes a selection of materials that will facilitate language and literacy opportunities. The classroom has labels with words and pictures so that students constantly connect written language with the things they represent.
PLAY BASED LEARNING
Our curriculum is play based. Both gross and fine motor development occur through play. When kids play outdoors, if they feel comfortable and supported, they’ll push themselves to new challenges and build motor skills. Developing fine motor skills, such as handling small objects, is a way for children to practice using their hands and fingers. This helps build the strength and coordination needed for writing skills. Children build language skills through cooperative play.
